Abstract

With the simultaneous growth of both outcomes assessment and online education, much has been made of incorporating each topic into the landscape of education. Outcomes assessment (OA) has gained in popularity as a tool that has potential to satisfy most stakeholders of education. In the meantime, online education has been seen as the wave of the future. In order to create heightened validity for both subjects, it is possible to embed outcomes into the online course. This creates a situation that satisfies both fragments of the market and can help in evaluating what is good (or needed) with online education. Ideas for embedding OA into online education rely upon a review of background information, experience in both outcomes assessment and online education, as well information obtained from individuals creative enough to see the simultaneous benefits of both subjects. Results are a legitimate view of how OA can be embedded into the typical online course.
