Abstract

This study provided to investigate the effects of treatments with bactericides and sucrose on the vase life of Carnation cut flowers (Dianthus caryophyllus). The vase life of the Carnation cut flowers studied was prolonged by the 8-HQS treatment, the best concentration was 100 pp m, when combined with sucrose 3% gave negative effect. AgNO3 in different concentration, significantly Result in maximum vase life compared to other treatment, while sucrose recorded the lowest vase life especially under lower concentration. The percent of wilting was minimized as a result of using this treatment . However the percent of wiling increased .With the increasing in concentration of 8-HQS , that wilting occurred after 10,8 and 7days of vase life for 100,200, and of 8-HQS in Carnation. The longest period to reach percent of wilting was obtained by AgNO3 at 30ppm13 days for Carnation. The best treatment of each chemical retarded the chlorophyll as well as carbohydrate degradation during postharvest life. These physiological processes are connected to cut flower longevity and quality.
