Madurese-Indonesian Code-Mixing in the Fifth Grade Students’ Essays at Elementary School in Jember, Indonesia
Abstract
The study about the forms of code-mixing based on the element of language in elementary school students has been
conducted. The code of the language is divided into five types, namely: 1) code-mixing in the form of words, 2) code-mixing in
the form of basters, 3) code-mixing in the form of idioms, 4) code-mixing in the form of phrases, and 5) code-mixing in the form
of clauses. Code-mixing found in the narrative essay of elementary school students in Jember, Indonesia indicate that the codemixing
incorporates the Madurese language (local language) in Indonesian sentences. The data is derived from the student's daily
task, which proves that the student's narrative essay contains code-mixing.
