Abstract
The study investigated the combined and relative effect of School types, inadequate facilities and Recreation Activities on Job Stress among public and private Universities in Nigeria. Three research hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. The study adopted ex-post factor research design and 250 staff were randomly selected from the groups of Academic and Non-Academic staff. Data were collected using a self-developed questioner by the Researchers. Data were analyzed using Multiple Regression (Enter) Pearson Product moment correlation while results were tested at the level of 0.05 levels of significance. Results indicated that the School types, inadequate facilities and Recreation Activities contribute 37.1% to the prediction of job stress with the Analysis of Variance of F (3, 246) = 154.234; p< .05) which is significant. Also, Inadequate Recreation Activities contributed most (β = .613, t =13.504, P< .05) followed by inadequate facilities with (β = 0.553; t=12.174; p< .05) and lastly by school types with (β =. 021, t = 0.485 p> .05). Finally significant relationship existed between Recreation Activities and inadequate facilities, but not with the school types. On the basis of this finding, it was suggested that: Universities workers should endeavor to create time to ease out tension through recreative activities. Also, Government and private enterprise should improve the schools facilities by making school to be conducive to learning.
