Abstract

A number of notorious events have provoked the outburst of Islamophobia whch became normalized and persistent in the Western world starting from the 9/11 unfortunate event to the recurrent emergences of terrorist groups. The development of Islamophobic ideas has nurtured mainly two major ideas. The first is the legitimization of attacking the Islamic thought and Muslim believers that are both held responsible for the spread of violent and extremist acts and ideas that threaten the well-being of Westerners and non-Muslims in general. This belief advocates for the reproduction of the same violent reactions which is a shallow solution that has proved its inefficiency. The second is the need for the Islamic thought to be reformed and renewed to be apt to better cope with the cosmopolitan, globalized and much diversified world.
